My name is Lou Smart and it is my belief that any art that is on show, should speak for itself - directly - to you. You either like, love or are touched by it for what ever reason or you are not. Words about me are not as important as your personal and direct experience.
I paint because I am totally fulfilled expressing the flood of love, light, color and images that I contact inside myself especially when I am quiet or bathing, eyes closed in sun light. The living art that is nature, the changing shapes and seasonal colour spectrums are what keep motivating me to paint. I was born in Cornwall and currently live and work in the wildly beautiful Cornish Rame peninsular. So I am surrounded by the sea and intense, vivid beauty and incredible light year round. No question, this is the perfect place to stimulate and nurture any creative idea. But once the painting starts - that's it, the process for me is entirely internal, liberating and passionately consuming. So I paint because I love the organic process of building depths of colour, detail and infusing reflective light with gold and silver and sparkling jewel tones. When it all suddenly comes together as a finished painting either by accident or when I instinctively know it is time to stop fiddling about - it is exhilarating !
I did not start painting with the intention to sell. However my water colours have been joyfully received by friends, family and Facebook friends who have enthusiastically supported and encouraged me to set up G a l l e r y L o u and sell my limited edition prints, uniquely hand embellished prints, commissions and Boutique designs.
